Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Muskoka Initiative

Date of commitment:
June 2010

G-8 countries commit to mobilize $5 billion of additional funding over the next five years towards maternal, newborn and child health, in addition to $4.1 billion that G-8 members already contribute annually. It is anticipated that the Initiative will mobilize significantly more than the $10 billion over the period 2010-2015.
The governments of the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea and Switzerland, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Foundation confirmed financial commitments of $2.3 billion, bringing the total committed at Muskoka to US$7.3 billion.

Some donors reaffirmed their Muskoka commitment at the 2010 MDG Summit.
All these commitment count under the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health. It is not clear whether these commitments are additional to other ODA and health commitments.
