Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Muskoka Initiative - Japan

Date of commitment:
June 2010

G-8 countries commit to mobilize $5 billion of additional funding over the next five years towards maternal, newborn and child health, in addition to $4.1 billion that G-8 members already contribute annually. It is anticipated that the Initiative will mobilize significantly more than the $10 billion over the period 2010-2015.
Japan will focus on addressing bottlenecks in the strengthening of health systems, and based on a program approach, it will deliver a more effective package of preventive and clinical interventions for maternal and newborn survival at both community and facility levels, create linkages between those communities and facilities by introducing innovative strategies and scale up highimpact child health intervention.
